Please Don't Kiss The Baby

With Respiratory Syncytial Virus ("RSV") on the rise again, health officials are urging parents to be more vigilant about protecting their babies from this common but potentially life threatening virus.

I remember when my daughter contracted RSV. I am not certain, but I suspect that she may have gotten the virus from some well-meaning family members kissing her. If I had the opportunity to go back in time and do things differently, I would have told my friends and family members in advance to not kiss my baby because RSV had a terrible effect on my daughter.

Thankfully, my mother who is a registered nurse, noticed that my daughter was in respiratory distress early on and we had gotten her the oxygen treatment she needed at the hospital.

I am still amazed that my mother identified her respiratory distress so early on because it was not obvious to me. My daughter was smiling and playing with her toys like normal. The only indication I had of her sickness was her runny nose. When I asked my mother how she knew something was wrong, she pointed out that my daughter's breathing rate was faster than normal and that she had some retractions. For those of you who are not familiar with respiratory distress, other signs of respiratory distress could include color changing, grunting, nose flaring, sweating, wheezing, body position and nose flaring.

It still haunts me to this day of what could have happened if we did not catch this in time. My mother is my super hero in so many ways, and I am eternally grateful to her for all that she does!

I designed these baby bibs for those new parents who want to give a gentle reminder to family members, friends and even strangers to please do not kiss the baby.

Piper the Christmas Penguin

I love baking and decorating cookies during the holidays. It is not quite that time yet, but that didn't stop me from designing one.

I created Piper, a cute Christmas penguin that is merrily eating a giant Christmas sugar cookie. I dressed Piper in pink ear muffs and a pink and white zigzagged scarf. She is holding an enormous cookie that she has been chomping away at. The Christmas sugar cookie is glazed in white icing, and has the message "Merry Christmas" written in red icing. I added additional red and green sprinkles and a sprig of holly to give it a more festive appearance.

Currently, this design is available on T-shirts, Long-Sleeve Shirts and also Sweatshirts on Amazon

I have also created some adorable "Merry Christmas" penguin stickers with this exact design:

Meet Riley and Rocco, a set of red nosed reindeer twins I created for this holiday season! I absolutely love these guys. Both Riley and Rocco both have a set of red glittery noses.

I dressed Riley in a simple red dress that is embellished with simulated red glitter rickrack trim. She is also wearing a green and white polka dot scarf that has white fringes. I love Riley's joyful expression. She has long lashes, and her rosy cheeks and sweet smile shows just how happy she is about Christmas.

I have started creating products with this design and so far these are my favorite items:

Art to Go: Travel Watercolor Set

Thailand Islands
My husband and I love to travel. This year we visited Singapore and Thailand, and we had to pack as light as possible. My husband kept reminding me to pack the essentials, but of course I could not leave without my art book and art supplies!
Compact travel watercolor set Set

I did not have a travel art to go set so I decided to buy a travel watercolor set just for this trip. I was so thrilled with this set that I use it quite frequently. I love that this watercolor set is so compact! It is small enough to fit in my purse yet it has 36 colors, and it comes with two watercolor brushes that have a built in water reservoir, two small sponges, and a mixing palette! It was also inexpensive which is an added bonus. It made painting on the go so easy, and I would highly recommend it to anyone else that would love to paint while they are traveling.

7 x 10 in Watercolor Painting of Thailand Islands
I painted these islands during my trip in my Canson Mix Media 7 x 10 sketch book. They were one of the many islands that we saw during our snorkeling excursions. Thailand is such a beautiful place, and the people there are so friendly. We will need to visit both of these places again.
